From SSG Patrick McLaughlin 03/23/09:

He participated in the Best Ranger Competition in 2007, 2008, and was preparing to participate again this year.
He also participated in the International Sniper Competition in 2007, 2008 placing 5th both times, behind US Army Marksmanship Unit, and Special Operations Forces Sniper teams.
He also participated in the Army 10-Miler in 2007 and 2008 placing very high both years.
As far as his professional career, he was the NCO with the most qualifications and schools working for the Warrior Training Center. You can see by looking at his Dress uniform picture.
He worked at the Warrior Training Center for just over 4.5 years and had a hand in training over 4000 Soldiers in several courses, such as Pre-Ranger, Air Assault, Pathfinder, and Small Arms training.
I can't tell you the circumstances around his death but it was sudden and took as all by surprise. He left a huge gap in our training ranks and it will take a lot to fill.
