The family of Jared Day, 28, of Taylorsville, Utah, confirmed the SEAL’s death in a statement prior to the Defense Department’s announcement. Day’s family attended a ceremony for the troops earlier this week at Dover Air�Force Base, Del., where they were given a few minutes with President Obama. Day enlisted in July 2002, according to the Navy. He graduated from Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training at Coronado in 2005, and he was a member of a West Coast based SEAL team from November 2004 to November 2007 before reporting to his East Coast-based unit. His decorations include Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat ‘V’ device for valor; Army Commendation Medal; Joint Service Achievement Medal; two Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medals; Presidential Unit Citation; two Good Conduct Medals; National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon; Navy/Marine Corps Overseas Service Ribbon; Rifle Marksmanship Medal and Pistol Marksmanship Medal. |
