MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Corporal Adam D. Jones, 29, of Germantown, Ohio, died April 27, 2011, while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan.
Jones was a mortarman assigned to 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C. He joined the Marine Corps in November 2006 and was promoted to corporal Feb. 1, 2010.
Jones deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from October 2007 to May 2008, with the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit from May 2009 to December 2009, to Haiti from January 2010 to March 2010, in Support of Operation Enduring Freedom from July 2010 to October 2010 and most recently in support of OEF in February 2011.
His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
