SGT Joseph Patrick Winters
September 25, 1984 - April 30, 2012

SGT Joseph Patrick Winters, stationed at Ft. Campbell, Kentucky, died on April 30, 2012 in Clarksville, Tennessee. He was 27 years of age.

SGT Winters was born on September 25, 1984 in Springfield, Oregon and was the son of Randall and Marilyn (Blanc) Winters. He lived throughout Oregon as a child, settling with his family in Corbett in 1998. He attended Corbett High School where he was an All-Star Athlete and played football, basketball and baseball. He graduated in 2003.

In May of 2006, SGT Winters enlisted in the Army. He served two tours in Iraq and was with the GSC, GSB, 5th SFG, UAV Platoon where he was the operator and maintainer of the Shadow. 

In May 2011, he married Desiree Gilmore in Georgia and he became "Daddy" to two children that he simply adored. He resided in Clarksville, Tennessee until his death.

SGT Winters had many hobbies. He loved sports, shooting, playing golf and computers. He was generous, caring, assertive and social. He had an amazing "Can Do "attitude that made him unstoppable. He was a good friend, awesome brother and amazing Son and he loved his family dearly. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. 

SGT Winters is survived by his wife, Desiree and his step children, Westin and Darla all of Georgia, his parents, Randall and Marilyn Winters of Corbett, sister, Erin (husband, Bryce) Bumgarner of Troutdale and brother, James Winters of Corbett along with his nephew, Bodin and numerous Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herbert and Lenore Winters and Arthur and Odette Blanc.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Henry Catholic Church in Gresham. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 10:00 am -5:00 pm with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Interment with Military Honors will be at Willamette National Cemetery. Contributions may be made in memory of SGT Winters to the Wounded Warrior Project (https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/) or a veteran's charity of your choice, or to the Corbett Booster Club/Corbett Youth Sports (https://corbettboosters.org/). Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling the arrangements
