Capt. Truex joined the NM Army National Guard in late 2008, he went through ROTC during college and joined with the rank of 1LT. 
His Military Decorations include The Iraq Campaign Medal w/2 stars – Army Achievement Medal – Army Good Conduct Medal – National Defense Service Medal – Global War on Terrorism Service Medal – Army Service Ribbon – Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award) – Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/10 year device Bronze Hourglass – Multinational Force and Observers Medal – Combat Infantry Badge.
