L.Cpl. James Eric Brown of Owensville, Indiana, was killed by sniper fire at 11:30 am local time on November 2, 2006, while standing sentry duty in a bunker atop Observation Post Bears near Camp Habbaniyah, Iraq. James was permanently assigned to the Third Battalion, Second Marines, and was attached to India Company with the 3/2's Regimental Combat Team 5. He was 20 years old. James was a 2005 graduate of Gibson Southern High School where he was a first team all-county and all-conference football player. He was named to the Indiana all-state honorable mention team in 2005. James also won Indiana Golden Gloves boxing titles in 2003 and 2005 boxing at 178 pounds. James is survived by his mother, Joanne Van Antwerp, his brother, Dillen Friend, his sister, Carma Dart, and his fiance, Jamie Coleman. James and Jamie were to have been married in February 2007. |
