| 12/17/2004 GAAS:557:04 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Governor Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Death of Two Camp Pendleton Marines: Cpl. Jason S. Clairday and Cpl. Ian W. Stewart Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement regarding the death of Cpl. Jason S. Clairday, of Camp Fulton, AR, and Cpl. Ian W. Stewart, of Lake Hughes, CA, both of whom were stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA: “Maria and I respect and admire Jason and Ian’s honorable decision to commit their lives to public service in our nation’s armed forces. The impact of their lives and selfless service will be felt not only by their families and fellow Marines but also by the communities they represented to the world. Each man served his country with bravery few will ever know.” Clairday, 21, and Stewart, 21, died Dec. 12 as a result of enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. They were assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, CA. In honor of Clairday and Stewart, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff. |
