FORT HOOD (June 23, 2010)—Spc. Nickolaus Gregory Gossack, 23, of Silverton, Ore., and Pfc. Christopher Scott Herrick, 21, of Morganton, N.C., died at Fort Hood on Saturday of injuries they received in an automobile accident, the post announced Wednesday.
Other details weren’t released, but Fort Hood said the accident was under investigation.

Gossack, who joined the Army in February 2008, and had been assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division’s Company B, 1st Battalion, 12th Armored Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team since August 2008.
He deployed to Iraq from December 2008 to December 2009.
Herrick, who joined the Army in December 2008, had been assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division’s Battery A, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team since May. |

Two soldiers killed in Fort Hood auto accident

Fort Hood officials have released the names of two soldiers who died June 19 at Fort Hood in an automobile accident.
Officials have not released details about the wreck and said it is under investigation.
Spc. Nickolaus Gregory Gossack, 23, of Silverton, Ore., joined the military in February 2008 as an infantryman and was assigned since August 2008 to Company B, 1st Battalion, 12th Armored Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood.
Pfc. Christopher Scott Herrick, 21, of Morganton, N.C., joined the military in December 2008 as an infantryman and was assigned since May 2010 to Battery A, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 3rd Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood.
Gossack deployed to Iraq from December 2008 to December 2009.
Gossack’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and Army Service Ribbon.
Herrick’s awards and decorations include the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
