GI BRIDE KILLED IN
IRAQ BLAST

September 26, 2006 -- A soldier and recent bride who grew up in New Jersey has been killed in Iraq, the military said yesterday.

Lt. Ashley Henderson Huff, 23, who had lived in Belle Mead, died of injuries suffered Thursday in Mosul when an explosive device detonated near her Army vehicle.

Huff grew up in Louisiana and New Jersey, and recently moved to Savannah, Ga.

She was a 2004 graduate of the University of Georgia, where she trained with the ROTC unit, her father, Mark Henderson told the Athens (Ga.) Banner-Herald.

She was married about a year ago to Brian Huff of Savannah, and was set to return home from Iraq in November.

"She was a newlywed, so she was looking forward to coming home and buying a house," Henderson said. "After the leave, that's what she was focusing on - coming home."

The father called Huff, "a happy person" and "a good leader."

"She was very caring about her soldiers - well respected by them and by her commanding officers. She had a promising career in the Army and whatever else she chose."
