Man killed when SUV veers off Interstate 5 in Lakewood

A 21-year-old Vancouver man was killed early today when his sport-utility vehicle went off southbound Interstate 5 in Lakewood and struck a tree, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Travis M. Humbyrd, the driver of the 1989 Ford Bronco, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel, according to a State Patrol report. He was not wearing a seat belt. The one-vehicle accident took place at about 2:30 a.m. near the Thorne Lane exit.

A witness reported the SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed before the accident took place. The exact cause of the collision was under investigation Saturday. It had not been determined if alcohol or drugs were involved, according to the State Patrol.
