From Patricia Petro 10/09/09:

I am enclosing pictures of Stephan Mace, he was my nephew. I can't begin to express what a devastating loss to our family this is. Stephan was my nephew by marriage. He was my husband's only sister's son. I knew Stephan since he was about six or seven. I watched him grow and mature into the wonderful young man that he was today. We are a very close family. My husband and I donít have any children of our own and so our nephews are like our own children and Stephan's death was like losing one of our own children.

The first picture of Stephan in his dress uniform is the picture that has been all over the news, the paper and the the internet but this one is very special to my husband and I because this one sits on our mantle and reminds us everyday that he loved his country, that he gave his life for his country and of course, that he had one hell of a smile...
