Funeral scheduled for Wash. Marine The Associated Press VANCOUVER, Wash. — A funeral has been scheduled for a Marine from Vancouver, Wash., who died of combat injuries suffered in Afghanistan. A public Mass for 31-year-old Sgt. Jason D. Peto is set for 12:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Vancouver. A graveside service with military honors will follow on Dec. 23 in Riverside, Calif. The Defense Department said Peto died Tuesday at Bethesda Naval Hospital in Maryland from wounds received Nov. 24 in Helmand province. Peto was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Born in Montebello, Calif., he moved to Vancouver in 1990, graduated from Mountain View High School and attended Clark College. He joined the Marines in 2004. He married his high school sweetheart, Tiffany, in 2005. |
