From Tim McCoy and Chris Ferris 01/30/07:
I would like to personally thank Jeffrey for his heroic service. I never had a chance to meet him, but did meet his mom and dad. His parents are very special to us and I am sure those qualities were instilled in Jeffrey. He is and always will be a true American hero and will never be forgotten.
I would like to thank Jeffrey and my son Gregory for introducing us to Mark and Lisa (Jeffrey Shaffer's mom and dad). You see, we first met Mark when we were In Texas and the Patriot Guard was escorting my son (Greg) from Dallas, Texas. We flew into Texas and we were to meet with the Patriot Guard between Dallas and Waco to escort our son. We were to meet them at a McDonalds about 15 miles from Waco, Texas. We arrived there and there was only one person there who was wearing a leather jacket with an eagle and an American flag. We saw him but were hesitant because it would make what was happening real, but after about 15 minutes we
approached him. We asked if he was part of the Patriot Guard and he said he was. We introduced ourselves to Mark. Then he introduced himself and told us that he had lost his son Jeffrey two months earlier (KIA September 13,2006). We hugged and shared some tears and it was a very special moment for me because I felt it was something Greg and Jeffrey arranged to help Mark and I to start a healing process. As I type this I shed some more tears knowing what Mark and Lisa feel.
God does work in mysterious ways to bring people together. Thank you Jeffrey and Gregory for introducing us to Mark and Lisa. I am proud to call you son, Jeffrey. Our thoughts and prayer are with you and your family.
Proud father and stepmom of
SSG Gregory William Guy McCoy
(KIA November 9, 2006)
