Torres, 29, was born in Monroe County, N.Y., and was a resident of Las Vegas, Nev. He began his Army Reserve career Jan. 1, 1998, in Rochester, N.Y. He was a trained civil affairs specialist assigned to the 490th Civil Affairs Battalion, Abilene, Texas. Torres’ civilian education includes attendance at Bishop Kearney High School, Rochester, N.Y. His first duty station was at the 401st CA Bn., Webster, N.Y. He later was reassigned to the Individual Ready Reserve before being reactivated to support the 490th’s mission to Iraq. Torres’ military education includes Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training and the Civil Affairs Specialist School. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with “M” device, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Marksmanship Qualification Badge. He is survived by his wife, Yarissa, parents Carmen and Teodoro Sr., and his sister Melissa, all of Rochester, N.Y. |
