AJ’S LETTER
POSTED ON HIS MYSPACE SHORTLY BEFORE DEPLOYING
I am off to Iraq. The time has finally come for me to do my part in keeping America great. I am finally allowed to do what I believe is right. I am soon off to the biggest and most grueling set of trials my life has ever encountered. For those that love me and know why I must do this: Thank you for being my support, my rock, my encouragement.
To my wife: There really is nothing I can say that would truly portray how I feel about her! Sometimes things are better left up to the imagination of those who know us best. To those who may not agree with my decision to serve in the greatest and most honorable profession in the world; then to you I say this: My life has been in ups and downs, the world has changed before my eyes, I have seen things that I wish I could forget, done things I wish I could undo, and said things I wish I could go back and change; but this is one that I wouldn’t change for the world. Whether we agree or not about this 'war' is irrelevant; what matters is that myself and the men that I proudly serve next to everyday have finally seen enough! We have seen enough murder! Enough raping! ENOUGH FEAR! And we have chosen to look past ourselves and see that when good men do nothing evil does prevail!
So to those who do not agree with my decision, try to understand this: I will not live in a world where evil prevails! If no one else will stand up against evil then let the righteous be called upon, let them answer the call, and let the people of oppression be set FREE! Whether by me or by my brethren; evil will NOT prevail! Not while I stand in its way... not while my brethren stand! To paraphrase a friend... a brother of mine: "people aren't soldiers because its always fun! Ask any soldier, they hate it! Its a love/hate relationship! But they couldn’t imagine their lives, at this moment, any other way! They live for this stuff! They live to serve others! They live in a world of danger so that others may have the peace that those who serve, so long for! They live to stand in that gap, where good and evil collide! They live!
This is what I am! This is what WE are, my brethren! AMERICAN SOLDIERS! If you cant tell by now the kind of person I am or don’t know all about me then you have allot to learn about me. Its definitely a love hate kinda thing but its what I want.
