| Leustean was suffered multiple internal and cerebral traumas when a roadside bomb detonated near him during a ground search mission in Zabul province, Afghanistan, on September 7, 2011. He was evacuated initially to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Landstuhl, Germany, and transferred on October 30, 2011, to a military hospital in Bucharest, Romania. He was in a coma when he died of cardiac arrest on May 9, 2012. | ||||||
