| Andrew Honeyman Obituary Andrew Craig Honeyman was a true hero in every sense of the word. Tragically, post military trauma got the best of him. Andrew passed away on April 12, 2026. He was born on Dec. 13, 1986 to Craig and Susan Honeyman and was raised in Portland, Oregon. While attending Beaverton High School, Andrew did considerable research on becoming a Navy SEAL. He signed a contract committing himself to SEAL training at just 17 years of age. Upon graduation from high school he went to Navy boot camp at Great Lakes, IL where he began the long journey to earn his Trident. Andrew was then assigned to San Diego, Calif., to prepare for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training, a grueling six month program of physical and mental endurance. He was one of only a handful of candidates in Class 260 that passed, so he moved on to SEAL Qualification Training (SQT). Upon completing SQT, he finally received his coveted Trident at ceremonies at the Naval Special Warfare base in San Diego on June 15, 2007. Andrew was assigned to SEAL Team 5 in San Diego, and was deployed numerous times to Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Africa and other strategic U.S. military facilities in the Middle East. Following two platoons on Team 5, and a stint as a BUD/S Instructor, Andrew went through his most selective training pipeline yet, and became a member of the elite Naval Special Warfare Development Group (DEVGRU). Andrew was a certified sniper and a parachute tandem master (both highly sought-after qualifications). He served most of the remainder of his military career in Virginia Beach, Va., and engaged in many high risk operations and Presidentially approved missions. He became a Senior Chief and a team leader within his squadron. Andrew was a highly decorated operator, receiving numerous commendations and medals, including three Bronze Stars (with Combat Valor). Andrew was known for his humility. He would not advertise his heroic actions or disclose the nature of his combat experience. He retired from the military on Aug. 31, 2025. Tragically, he would continue fighting his battles silently and stoically. At the time of his passing he was a graduate student at Georgetown University in Washington, DC having received his undergraduate degree (Summa Cum Laude) while still on active duty. As a youth, Andrew was very athletic, excelling in soccer, hockey and golf. He is survived by his parents, brother (Kevin Honeyman), his daughter (Katelyn) from a previous relationship and his longtime girlfriend (Nadia Sellami). Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins also survive him, all of whom admire his military and personal accomplishments. A funeral with full military honors is scheduled for St. Thomas More Catholic Church at 11 a.m., on Saturday, May 9th (3525 SW Patton Rd., Portland, Ore. 97221). Internment will immediately follow at Mt. Cavalry Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held at The Town Club (2115 SW Salmon St, Portland, Ore. 97205). Gentlemen, please wear a jacket and tie. Active duty in appropriate dress uniforms. The family would like to thank the Navy SEAL Foundation and America's Gold Star Families for their incredible support and generosity in facilitating arrangements. Also thanks to members of DEVGRU who served with Andrew and other close friends who have been present and stood by the family's side. Remembrances can be made in Andrew's honor to The Navy SEAL Foundation and America's Gold Star Families. And Andrew, thank you for your courage and service to your country and all of us. Godspeed sailor. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store. Published by The Oregonian from Apr. 23 to May 3, 2026. |
